The deer motif, a classic motif for hand-painted Italian pottery, pays tribute to the 13th century stunning marble inlaid floor, from the breathtaking Siena Cathedral (Il Duomo or Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta). The deer theme is inspired by the biblical theme "Sicut cervus ad fontem" (As the deer pants for streams of water) from Psalm 42 of the Bible.
