The Italian Nativity Scene, or Presepe, is a Christmas tradition that depicts the birth of Jesus. Tradition states that Saint Francis of Assisi staged the first Nativity in 1223 in Greccio, Italy. Soon the tradition spread all over Italy and each Christmas everyone began displaying the Nativity Scene.
The word presepe comes from the Latin word praesaepe, which means "crib", "manger", or "enclosed area for sheep and goats", which became the humble birthplace of the Christ Child.
Nativity figurines are in plastic with hand painted figurines, 10 cm tall.
