One of the most popular designs from Deruta Pottery is Raffaellesco. Named for the famous 16th Century Renaissance artist Raphael, The Raffaellesco pattern was inspired by Raphael’s frescoes in the Vatican palace. The central motif of the pattern is the dragon, a good-natured God who was thought to bring good luck and fair winds to sailors. Today, Italians believe that having a piece of Raffaellesco is your home will bring good luck.
Founded in 1932, Fratelli Mari Maioliche is one of the oldest and most prestigious companies in Deruta producing fine, handcrafted majolica. This family run business made a name for itself through the world, and won recognition to various exhibitions and competitions. F.lli Mari continues the age-old tradition of producing the best examples of the majolica tradition. Every single piece is hand painted by the artists at the Fratelli Mari factory located in Deruta, Italy.
