First held in 1656, The Palio di Siena otherwise known as "Il Palio" is one of the oldest and most famous horse races in the world. The race occurs twice a year on July 2 and August 16 at The Piazza del Campo in Siena, Italy to honor The Virgin Mary, this bareback horse race is a battle between the 17 Contrade (neighborhoods) of Siena. Fratelli Mari produces Dinnerware, Tiles, Clock and Garden Pots to commemorate the Palio. Choose from 17 Contrada Palio Patterns.

The Contrade are: Eagle, Snail, Wave, Panther, Forest, Tortoise, Owl, Unicorn, Shell, Tower, Ram, Caterpillar, Dragon, Giraffe, Porcupine, She-Wolf, Goose (aquila, bruco, chiocciola, civetta, drago, giraffa, istrice, leocorno, lupa, montone, nicchio, oca, onda, pantera, selva, tartufa, torre.)
