One of the most popular designs from Deruta Pottery is Raffaellesco. Named for the famous 16th Century Renaissance artist Raphael, The Raffaellesco pattern was inspired by Raphael’s frescoes in the Vatican palace. The central motif of the pattern is the dragon, a good-natured God who was thought to bring good luck and fair winds to sailors. Today, Italians believe that having a piece of Raffaellesco is your home will bring good luck.
