Nicchio is the Palio di Siena Winner!! – August 18, 2026

The Nobile Contrada del Nicchio has won the Palio of August 18, 2026 with Jockey Giovanni Atzeni, known as Tittia, riding the horse Anda e Bola. Tittia previously won the July 2, 2026 Palio earning himself his fourth “cappotto” of his career. The race scheduled for August 16^th was postponed twice due to inclement weather.

Nicchio has not won a Palio in twenty-eight years with their last victory on August 16, 1998. Tittia managed to erase the longest wait among the contrade, bringing the long-awaited victory to Nicchio. And it was fitting that Tittia managed this victory for his ran his first four Palio races for Nicchio. Tittia earned his second consecutive win this year, winning the July 2^nd Race for Aquila and his 13^th overall win.

The Nobile Contrada del Nicchio was presented with Teodora Axente's Drappellone, dedicated to the Madonna dell'Assunta, which commemorates the 500^th Anniversary of The Battle of Camollia.

Tittia dominated the race from the get-go, until the finish where the unexpected happened as he collided with a person who trespassed onto the track. Tittia was not injured but was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The winning horse, Anda e Bola was examined by veterinarians and appears to be doing well.
