Palio di Siena Winners: Complete List of Past Winners & Contrade

First held in 1656, The Palio di Siena, otherwise known as "Il Palio", is one of the oldest and most famous horse races in the world held twice a year on July 2 and August 16. Each race is a battle between ten of Siena’s 17 contrade (neighborhoods) who battle it out on the town circle “Piazza del Campo”. Lasting only 90 seconds, Il Palio is famous for its intense rivalry to see who will reign supreme and bring home the prize, the coveted Drappellone.

August 18, 2026 - NICCIO

Nicchio is the Palio di Siena Winner!! – August 18, 2026 The Nobile Contrada del Nicchio has won the Palio of August 18, 2026 with Jockey Giovanni Atzeni, known as Tittia, riding the horse Anda e Bola. Tittia previously won the July 2, 2026 Palio earning himself his fourth “cappotto” of his career. The race scheduled for August 16th was postponed twice due to inclement weather. Nicchio has not won a Palio in twenty-eight years with their last victory on August 16, 1998. 

July 3, 2026 – AQUILA

The Results are in – L’Aquila has won the July 3rd, 2026 Il Palio di Siena. The Nobile Contrada dell'Aquila (Aquila) won the Palio of July 2, 2026, which took place today, Friday, July 3, after being postponed due to inclement weather. The Contrada’s horse Diodora was rode by Jockey Giovanni Atzeni, known as Tittia.

August 16, 2025 - VALDIMONTONE

Palio di Siena Horse Race - Winner of the August 16, 2025 is Valdimontone! The results are in! Valdimontone won the August 16th, 2025 Il Palio di Siena horse race. The 9-year-old gelding Anda E Bola and 43-year-old jockey Giuseppe Zedde (also known as Gingillo) brought their contrada to victory Saturday the first time 2016. Pantera came in second. This is Valdimontone’s 45th official victory. 

July 3, 2025 – OCA

Palio di Siena - The Winner of the July 3, 2025 is Oca The Results are in Oca has won the July 3rd, 2025 Il Palio di Siena. Jockey Giovanni Atzeni who goes by the professional name Tittia wins for the 11th time. This is the 68th win for the Oca (Goose) Contrada. The Palio is by far the world’s wildest horse race and Atzeni has become the jockey who has been able to dominate this 392 year event.
